Tech Boss Suspended After Viral Coldplay Kiss Cam Clip Triggers Investigation

The CEO and Colleague Caught in a Viral Moment

A high-profile incident involving a US tech company’s CEO has sparked widespread attention after a video captured him in an intimate moment with a senior colleague during a Coldplay concert. The clip, recorded at Boston’s Gillette Stadium on July 16, shows the pair embracing before realizing they were being projected onto the big screen. In response, the man quickly ducked out of view while the woman turned away and attempted to hide her face.

This event has led to serious consequences for Andy Byron, the CEO of Astronomer, a software company that has since confirmed his suspension and initiated an internal investigation. The company released a statement emphasizing its commitment to values and culture, stating that leaders are expected to uphold standards in conduct and accountability. A formal investigation is currently underway, with more details expected to be shared soon.

Astronomer clarified that no other employees were involved in the video and denied any reports that Byron had issued a public statement. The company described such claims as incorrect. According to a source close to the situation, both Byron and Kristin Cabot, the Chief People Officer, have been temporarily removed from their roles due to internal pressure and public backlash. Pete DeJoy, co-founder and Chief Product Officer, is now acting as interim CEO.

The Spread of Fake Statements and Online Reactions

The incident has also led to the circulation of fake apology statements attributed to both Byron and Coldplay. One viral hoax claimed the band would introduce “camera-free audience sections for people and their sidepieces.” Additionally, one individual claimed to have been fired from Astronomer for purchasing the Coldplay tickets that allegedly exposed the affair, although this has not been verified.

The scandal has elicited mixed reactions, with some former employees expressing amusement. A former direct report told the New York Post that text groups and chains among ex-employees were filled with laughter over the incident. The insider described Byron as a “sales-obsessed” executive who was allegedly “toxic” in the workplace.

The Impact on Public Perception

Byron and Cabot, both of whom have families, were seen rushing for cover after being caught off guard in the packed stadium. Footage of their reaction, along with Chris Martin’s commentary, has been viewed by millions around the world. The fan who filmed the moment told The U.S. Sun that she did not expect it to cause a scandal. She said she simply thought she had captured an interesting reaction to the kiss cam and decided to post it. She added that a part of her felt bad for turning these people’s lives upside down but noted that “play stupid games… win stupid prizes.”

Longer footage has since emerged, showing the full reaction of a visibly panicked Cabot. Neither Byron nor Cabot has spoken publicly about the incident. Byron has served as CEO of Astronomer, valued at more than $1.3 billion, since July 2023. Cabot, who goes by Kristin Cabot Thornby on LinkedIn, joined the company nine months ago as Chief People Officer.

When she was appointed, Byron praised her as a “proven leader” with “exceptional leadership and deep expertise in talent management.” On her LinkedIn profile, Cabot previously described herself as someone who “wins trust with employees of all levels, from CEOs to managers to assistants.”
