Ariana Grande Joins Warner Bros. Animated Musical Adaptation of “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”
Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed that Ariana Grande will take on a leading role in their animated musical adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s classic book Oh, the Places You’ll Go!. The film will also feature Josh Gad in a prominent role. Set for a theatrical release in IMAX on March 17, 2028, the project is directed by Jon M. Chu and Jill Culton, with original songs composed by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
This casting decision has sparked discussions among fans, especially as Grande continues to expand her acting career while maintaining her presence in the music industry. In response to these concerns, the singer shared her thoughts on social media, stating: “Singing and music is and has always been my lifeline.” She added, “There will need to be room made for all of it,” indicating her intention to continue both careers.
Grande acknowledged that her career may look different from before but expressed that she prefers the direction it is heading. She also teased fans with news that she is working on plans to perform for them next year, even if only briefly.
This new project marks another milestone in Grande’s Hollywood journey, following her starring role as Glinda in Universal’s Wicked adaptation, with the second part set for release in November. She is also scheduled to appear in the next instalment of the Meet the Parents franchise alongside Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. These upcoming roles have led to speculation about her future in music, particularly since she has not toured since her 2019 Sweetener World Tour.
Fan reactions have been mixed. Michael Rodrigues De Jesus, a devoted fan, shared his perspective, saying: “I’ve seen different discourses online where people are really upset that she’s doing movies. I did feel a bit of that same sentiment. Like, are we ever going to get another tour? Has she found a home in acting that she wants to stay in forever?” However, he added, “As a fan, it’s exciting to see an artist you like doing a lot of things. You get to experience their talent in a lot more ways.”
The animated film is a significant project for Warner Bros., produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Dr. Seuss Enterprises. Rob Lieber adapted the script from the beloved 1990 book, which was the final work published by Dr. Seuss before his death. The studio has positioned this as a major theatrical event, with Chu bringing his musical expertise from In the Heights and Wicked, and Pasek & Paul (known for La La Land and The Greatest Showman) composing original songs.
Grande’s representatives have reiterated her commitment to music while exploring acting opportunities. Her most recent album, Eternal Sunshine (2024), received three Grammy nominations but has yet to be performed live. The lengthy production timeline of the Dr. Seuss film, along with her other acting commitments, has raised questions about when she might return to touring or recording new music.
Warner Bros. Pictures Animation is currently developing multiple Dr. Seuss adaptations, including The Cat in the Hat starring Bill Hader, set for release in February 2026. The studio sees Grande’s involvement as a major achievement, given her massive fanbase and established musical talents.
As the entertainment industry closely follows Grande’s evolving career, the question remains whether she can successfully balance her two creative paths. Based on her recent statements, it seems she is ready to embrace the challenge.
