The UK’s Top Holiday Parks Revealed
As the cost of living crisis continues to affect households across the UK, more people are choosing to stay closer to home for their holidays. This shift has led to a surge in popularity for staycations, with many Brits opting for local destinations over traditional foreign getaways. According to data from last year, 52 per cent of Brits chose to holiday within the UK, and 34 per cent planned for at least two staycations in 2024. With summer approaching, families are now on the lookout for last-minute breaks to escape the city and enjoy some much-needed relaxation.
Consumer brand Which? has recently ranked all the UK’s holiday parks, offering insights into which resorts are winning the hearts of visitors. The survey suggests that while well-known names like Center Parcs, Butlin’s, and Pontins may be familiar, they might not always be the top choices when it comes to customer satisfaction.
A Surprising Drop in Rankings
Butlin’s, a popular resort with three sites across the UK, was notably lower in the rankings. Despite attracting around 1.5 million visitors annually, the resort scored an overall customer rating of 67 per cent. Travelers gave it low marks for value for money, food and drink, and overall service, awarding just two stars in these categories. However, the resort received three stars for its dog-friendliness and free facilities, and a more positive four stars for the quality and variety of children’s activities.
Pontins, another long-standing name in the industry, came in at the bottom of the list with a 56 per cent customer score. Visitors described the furnishings as “extremely tired” and the beds and chairs as “incredibly uncomfortable.” One guest criticized the overgrown grounds and poor facilities, noting that while the price was low, the actual experience fell short of expectations.
Potters Resorts Takes the Crown
In contrast, Potters Resorts secured the top spot with an impressive 87 per cent customer score. This adult-only, all-inclusive resort operates from two locations in Norfolk and Essex, and prides itself on its high standards of hospitality and entertainment. With a history spanning over 100 years, the park offers excellent value for money, with an average cost of £110 per person per night. This includes all meals and drinks, making it a popular choice for those seeking a hassle-free break.
Visitors praised the facilities, describing them as “excellent” and highlighting the well-organized activities and outstanding evening entertainment. One recent guest remarked on the superb and plentiful food, adding that the all-inclusive deal was “very good value.”
Other Notable Contenders
While Potters Resorts took the top spot, several other holiday parks also made the list of top-rated options. These include:
- Forest Holidays
- Bluestone Wales
- John Fowler Holiday Parks
- Hoburne Holidays
- Hoseasons
- Waterside Holiday Group
- Warner Leisure Villages
- Centerparcs
- Haven Holiday Parks
- Parkdean Resorts
- Park Holidays UK
- Away Resorts
- Largo Leisure Parks
The rankings were based on 2,255 responses from 1,717 Which? members and the general public, collected between February and March 2024. The survey aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the UK’s holiday parks, helping travelers make informed decisions about their next break.
