Ex-President’s Health Unveiled by Former Aide

Biden’s Former Chief of Staff Testifies Before Congressional Committee

Ron Klain, the former chief of staff to President Joe Biden, appeared before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday morning for a transcribed interview as part of an ongoing investigation into the former president’s cognitive state. The hearing took place on Capitol Hill and marked the sixth time a former Biden aide has testified in the probe.

Klain, who served as Biden’s White House chief of staff from January 2021 until February 2023, also worked as the vice president’s chief of staff during his time in office. He voluntarily attended the session, making him one of only three former aides to do so without being subpoenaed. In contrast, other senior advisors such as Annie Tomasini and Anthony Bernal, along with ex-White House doctor Kevin O’Connor, were compelled to testify after receiving subpoenas.

During their testimonies, all three individuals invoked their Fifth Amendment rights, declining to answer questions about Biden’s health and mental state. Videos released by the committee showed them using legal jargon when questioned about the 82-year-old former president.

When Klain arrived at the hearing, he was surrounded by staffers and did not respond to press questions. However, he was described as cooperative and polite during the session. According to Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna of California, Klain answered every question asked. Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs noted that unlike other Biden officials, Klain did not claim executive privilege or invoke the Fifth Amendment.

Despite this, Biggs emphasized that there are still many unanswered questions, particularly regarding Hunter Biden’s recent comments about his father being given sleeping medication before a debate with Donald Trump. “I still have many unanswered questions regarding who was running the country and Joe Biden’s mental and physical acuity, especially in light of Hunter Biden’s revelation that his father was being drugged with Ambien,” he wrote on X.

The last Biden aide to be questioned, Annie Tomasini, also invoked her right to remain silent during a closed-door session with the committee. Her testimony lasted less than an hour, and she did not respond to any reporter questions upon entering or exiting the meeting. A video published by the committee showed her repeatedly asserting her Fifth Amendment rights.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has described the alleged cover-up as a “historic scandal.” Earlier this month, Comer accused Dr. Kevin O’Connor of conspiring to hide Biden’s cognitive decline. O’Connor cited provider-patient privilege as the reason for his silence, while his lawyer expressed concerns about what he could say without violating confidentiality laws.

Dr. O’Connor, who was responsible for Biden’s annual physical, repeatedly certified that the former president was fit to hold office. Republicans argue that Biden’s inner circle engaged in a conspiracy to conceal his cognitive decline, which ultimately led to his withdrawal from the 2024 re-election bid.

The ongoing investigation continues to draw attention, with lawmakers seeking clarity on the former president’s health and the decisions made by his team. As more evidence comes to light, the debate over Biden’s fitness for office remains a central topic in political discourse.
